October episode 6 news: looking after our mental health

Dr Robin Hadley who featured on Episode 4, interviewed 10 men for one of his studies and had this to say about mental health and men…

“most of whom said their childlessness contributed to depression. You start thinking, how am I performing economically? Socially? And if I’m not performing well economically and I’m not doing well socially, and I’m not reproducing biologically – then what am I as a man?
— Dr Robin Hadley, Guardian, 17 Nov, 2018.

We know from our own experiences and data, that mental health, PTSD and depression are common place across all genders. Statistic help us to understand but we hear it in words and writing all the time.

In episode 6 we’re talking mental health with Meriel who is a professional counsellor who specialises in counselling childless individuals. She has recently published this incredibly powerful article in Psychology Excellence that draws on the experiences of many of us who are childless. We’ll share our experiences and our coping tools.
